LAN —— Local Area Network
LAN (Local Area Network)为一范围较小区域的网络，通常是在一个公司的办公室或公司组织的内部或一建筑物内架设的网络。通常网络连接的范围以100公尺为限，才称之为LAN，其构成组件可为PC工作站、网络适配卡、同轴线路、网络操作系统及档案服务器等。LAN网络系统能传送数据 (Data)、影像 (Image) 及语音 (Voice)，传输速率可达到20 Mbps，因为涵盖区域有限，通常在数十公里以内，所以发生传讯错误的情形要比广域网络 (WAN ) 少。
